Regional companies nab seven spots on latest Fortune 500 listing

Greater Cincinnati's heavy corporate presence has long been considered an economic asset, providing the region with tens of thousands of high-paying jobs and attracting strong entrepreneurial talent.

Greater Cincinnati's roster of Fortune 500 companies held steady at seven, according to the latest listing by the business magazine.

The latest list marks the second time in a row the region has notched seven companies after nearly a decade of logging eight or nine firms. The region has seen the number of firms shrink in recent years, due to acquisitions from outside the area.

Fortune's annual ranking of the largest U.S. companies is based on the latest fiscal year's revenues recorded in a government filing. Here are the latest local companies to make the list:

Kroger was No. 21, with $137.9 billion in sales.

• Procter & Gamble was No. 47, with $76.1 billion in sales.

• Cincinnati Financial, based in suburban Fairfield, was No. 367, with $9.6 billion in revenue.
