Two seasons after he committed to Ohio State in front of a big crowd in Lincoln Heights, former Princeton High School defensive standout Darrion Henry-Young is trading scarlet and gray for Kentucky's big blue.
The 6-foot-4 inch 265-pound defensive lineman announced via Twitter that he was becoming a member of the Kentucky Wildcats Monday morning.
As a true freshman in 2020 with the Buckeyes, he played in games vs. Nebraska and Rutgers. This past season as a redshirt freshman (since he played less than four games in 2020) he played in games vs. Tulsa and Akron.
Henry-Young visited Kentucky over the weekend. Among locals he will join in Lexington is former Fairfield running back JuTahn McClain. Other Greater Cincinnati locals on the Wildcats are Moeller's Brenden Bates and Carrington Valentine, Mason's Paul Rodriguez and Turpin's Quentin Wilson.
At Princeton, Henry-Young played for Mike Daniels who has since been employed by Army, Akron, Buffalo and is now running backs coach at Georgia Tech. Along with Ohio's top prospect of 2019, Paris Johnson Jr., Henry-Young joined the Buckeyes, while teammate Jaheim Thomas, also a top 10 prospect, joined Luke Fickell's Cincinnati Bearcats.
A three-year starter for the Vikings, Henry-Young led the Greater Miami Conference in sacks as a junior with 8.5 and had six in his senior campaign.
Given the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Henry-Young will have four years of eligibility at Kentucky.
He entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Dec. 20, declared himself still open on Jan. 2 via Twitter and eight days later committed to Mark Stoops and Kentucky.
