Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol worked quickly Monday to stop a wrong-way driver on Interstate 71 in Sycamore Township.According to OSHP, troopers received a call at around 9:16 a.m. about a 2018 Honda Civic that was driving south on I-71 from Mason-Montgomery Road in the northbound lanes.A trooper activated his lights, slowed down traffic and used his patrol car to slow the wrong-way driver to prevent a head-on collision during the Memorial Day holiday.A 47-year-old man who was driving his 2021 Chevrolet Silverado behind the state trooper slowed down once he saw the trooper's lights but troopers said he took "evasive action" to avoid the wrong-way driver and was side-swiped by a semitruck. It's unclear if the driver of the Silverado was injured.Troopers were able to eventually stop the Honda Civic that was driven by Kelsey Peterson, 25, of West Chester, Ohio. OSHP said Peterson was found to be operating the vehicle under the influence and was driving on a suspended license.Peterson was taken into custody and was charged with driving the wrong way, operating a vehicle under the influence and driving on a suspended license. She is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center."If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel while impaired," OSHP said in a release Monday.
