Several fire departments worked together to stop a brush fire from spreading to homes in Dearborn and Ripley counties on Wednesday.The Dillsboro Fire Department was dispatched to the 9400 block of Grelle Road near the Dearborn County/Ripley County line at around 3:47 p.m. for a report of a brush fire that had crossed Grelle Road from a nearby property.The Aurora Fire Department, Milan Fire Department, Friendship Fire Department and Aurora EMS assisted the Dillsboro Fire Department to battle the fire. They brought specialized brush fire fighting trucks to assist.Firefighters found that around two to three acres of field were on fire that had crossed the road onto a residential property. Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control. No homes or structures were damaged, according to the Dillsboro Fire Department.Fire officials said at the time of the fire, wind measurements from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport showed wind gusts were suddenly increasing and reach a high wind gust of 18 mph. They said this may have contributed to the fire's spread.The fire's cause is accidental, fire officials said.
