Police: Major West End road closed through rush hour after driver hits utility pole

WEDNESDAY’S RAIN COMING UP. RANDI THANK YOU. WE ARE LEADING THE WAY WITH SOME BREAKING NEWS THIS MORNING AFTER A CRASH SHUTS DOWN A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE. OVER ON THE WEST END THIS MORNING. IT HAPPENED ON HAMILTON AVENUE AT WEST NORTH BEND ROAD ROAD AND IT SHUT DOWN THE INTERSECTION AROUND 330 THIS MORNING. AND WLWT NEWS 5 RICHARD CHILES IS LIVE ON THE SCENE LEADING THE WAY WITH HOW THIS IS EXPECTED TO IMPACT TRAFFIC IN THE AREA. RICHARD, HOW’S IT GOING? ASHLEY, GOOD MORNING. GOING TO BE A LOT OF DETOURS IF YOU TAKE HAMILTON AVENUE INTO COLLEGE HILL OR NORTH COLLEGE HILL, THE CITY SINCE AND ADDIE, THIS ACCIDENT TAKING PLACE ABOUT 330 THIS MORNING. POLICE SAY A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. JEEP COP IS SLAMMING INTO A UTILITY POLE. NOW POLICE REMAINING ON THE SCENE OF THIS ACCIDENT. POLICE SAY THE DRIVER OF HIS JEEP COMPASS SUV LOST CONTROL OF A VEHICLE SLAMMING INTO A UTILITY POLE. NOW, INITIAL REPORTS WERE DISPATCHED AS AN ENTRAPMENT. FIRST RESPONDERS SAY, HOWEVER, AS THEY ARRIVED ON SCENE, THE WOMAN WAS SEEN CRAWLING OUT OF THE CAR. NOW, SHE WAS TRANSPORTED TO UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER WITH MINOR INJURIES. AND POLICE SAY DISTRACTED DRIVING COULD BE A FACTOR ALONG WITH SPEED. NOW, THESE UTILITY LINES EXPECTED TO BE DOWN THROUGH THE MORNING RUSH HOUR NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. OFFICERS TELL US AGAIN, MINOR INJURIES FOR THIS WOMAN, BUT THEY ARE ADVISING DETOURS AROUND HAMILTON AVENUE OR EITHER GALBREATH AVENUE TO THE WEST, NORTH BEND TO THE EAST. A crash in the West End has shutdown a major thoroughfare Monday morning.The crash happened on Hamilton Ave. at West North Bend Road, shutting down the intersection around 3:30 a.m. If you take Hamilton Avenue into College Hill, expect a lot of detours.Police say it's a single-vehicle accident involving a Jeep Compass slamming into a utility pole.Officials say the driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle before hitting the pole. Authorities say the initial call from dispatch classified the crash as an entrapment, but arriving officers saw the driving crawling out of the car.Police say the driver has been taken to UC Medical Center with minor injuries. Officials say distracted driving and speed could be factors in the crash.The utility lines are expected to be down through the morning rush hour and are advising motorists to take detours around Hamilton Ave., including taking Galbraith Ave. to the west and North Bend to the east.
