Reds trade Tucker Barnhart to Detroit Tigers for Quintana

The Cincinnati Reds traded catcher Tucker Barnhart to the Detroit Tigers for infield prospect Nick Quintana, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.

Selected by the Reds in the 10th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft, Barnhart has played his entire eight-season MLB career with the Reds. A two-time Gold Glove winner who hit .248 with an OPS of .696 in 2,561 plate appearances, with 51 home runs and 261 RBIs, Barnhart has a $7.5 million option for 2022 that freep.com reported the Tigers picked up after trading for him.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart (16) talks with third baseman Eugenio Suarez (7) in the dugout during the fourth inning of the MLB National League game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021. The Reds led 8-1 in the top of the sixth inning.
