Southern Indiana woman now charged with murder in 2-year-old's death
A woman first charged with the neglect in the death of a 2-year-old is now facing a murder charge, as well.Police said a child, named Misty, died early Tuesday morning. Her father's girlfriend, Sarah Bierly, 30, of Pekin, was arrested that day and charged with neglect.On Wednesday, Indiana State Police said an autopsy report revealed Misty died of multiple blunt force injuries and her death was ruled a homicide.Now, Bierly is facing two additional charges: murder and aggravated battery resulting in death.In regard to the case, Washington County Prosecutor Dustin Houchin provided the following statement: "This case will require our best. Thankfully, our office has the experience, training, and determination necessary to meet this moment. Read/watch that story here.Jasmine Hardin, the child's aunt said, "She didn’t even call the cops immediately. She called the neighbor because she was so scared she was going to go to jail. She was so selfish and let that child lay there unresponsive and did not call the police until almost an hour later."We're told Misty's father was at work when the child died.A fund that will help cover the costs of the child's funeral has been set up at First Harrison Bank, 1312 South Jackson Street, Salem, Indiana 47167. Those interested in donating should mention the "Misty McDowell burial fund."
