Officials now say that 30-year-old Cierra Allen was shot and killed early Saturday morning in self defense. Authorities with the Cincinnati Police Department have provided few specifics, but said Monday that the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office has released preliminary data, showing the mother of two was shot in self-defense. The prosecutor's office is still reviewing the case and has not yet spoken directly on the case. Allen was found shot around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of St. James Avenue in Walnut Hills. A neighbor said two women were arguing for at least a half-hour and then there were gunshots.She was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.No arrests have been made. Loved ones said none of this makes sense."Everybody that I've talked to is in shock. Absolute shock," friend Amber Kassem said."When I saw her picture on CPD's Homicide Unit. At first, I saw the picture and I looked and I'm like, 'Oh this is weird' and then, to see that she was a victim of homicide just wouldn't make sense to me," she said.Kassem said Allen was focused on her two young sons and excelled in Northern Kentucky University's Chase Law program."She worked on their homework with them, you know, I would be on the phone with her and you could hear her, you know, guiding them to be corrected and so, even just her patience with her own children. It just doesn't make sense," Kassem said.Beyond that, Kassem knew Allen as a mentor for high school kids as she helped guide them into the workforce or college.The NKU Chase College of Law sent a message to students on Sunday about Allen's death."Dear Chase Community,"With a heavy heart, I share that Cierra Allen, a 3L in our evening division, was killed early Saturday morning in Cincinnati. Cierra graced our world as a mother, Master's Degree holder and outstanding member of our Chase student body. As a Chase Ambassador, Cierra volunteered her time to welcome prospective students to the law school, always with a warm smile that has brightened the landing page of our website since its redesign last year."To help us process this tremendous loss, grief counselors will be available on campus this week beginning tomorrow. Amy Clark, Director of NKU Student Counseling Services, will be in Room 565 beginning at 4:30 p.m. Counseling services are also available at the Student Counseling Center, reached at 859.572.5650. In addition, I will be in my office on the Fifth Floor to welcome all who wish to gather on Monday, September 13 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m."We will plan a remembrance for Cierra in the coming days.
