Man shot woman, barricaded himself in Kennedy Heights

CINCINNATI — A SWAT incident in Kennedy Heights ended "peacefully" Thursday afternoon, but not without one woman suffering a gunshot wound.

A Cincinnati police SWAT team responded around 11 a.m. to the 6600 block of Iris Avenue after reports of the shooting. The suspect who officers said shot the woman barricaded himself in a residence after the shooting, according to a department spokesperson.

After negotiations, the suspect "surrendered peacefully" and was taken into District Two officers' custody.

"At a minimum, he will be charged with felonious assault," the spokesperson said in a written statement, although specific charges were still pending Thursday afternoon.

EMTs escorted the woman who was shot to an area hospital where she was treated and released.

The incident did not appear to be a domestic dispute, police said.
