Cincinnati Reds in rain delay with 2-0 lead vs. Padres

The Cincinnati Reds grounds crew rolls out the tarp in the sixth inning during a baseball game between the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds, Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The game was called in the sixth inning and with the San Diego Padres won, 7-5.

9:05 p.m. update: The game will resume at 9:25 p.m. Luis Castillo walked to the bullpen with pitching coach Derek Johnson, so he will remain in the game despite the delay. He's thrown 47 pitches through four innings.

For the third straight game Thursday, the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres have a rain delay.

The Great American Ball grounds crew unrolled the tarp after the bottom of the fourth inning. The Reds hold a 2-0 lead and starting pitcher Luis Castillo is throwing a no-hitter. 

A couple of minutes after the game entered a delay, a storm with heavy rain passed over the ballpark as fans hurried for cover on the concourse.
