The trial of Joshua Ward, accused of killing a mother and her 9-year-old son, starts on Monday, Aug. 23 in Boone County.
The Forest Park man was charged with two counts of murder less than two months after the double-shooting.
Police found Kelli Kramer and her son Aiden Kramer shot multiple times on March 21, 2018, in their Burlington apartment.
She worked a job at a Starbucks location and was a regular at a yoga class.
Ward had been involved in an intimate relationship with the Kelli that ended abruptly in May 2017, according to officials in the Boone County Sheriff's Office. Police said Ward believed Kelli Kramer was responsible for destroying him.
The trial is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Monday in Boone County Circuit Court with jury selection. Circuit Court Judge Richard A. Brueggemann is the judge in the trial.
Court records indicate Ward is acting as hybrid counsel in his own defense along with defense attorneys Daniel Schubert and Ashley Graham.
