Ex-Reds relief pitcher makes start for Lexington Legends

Former Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher J.J. Hoover made his Lexington Legends debut Wednesday with a start against the Barnstormers.

Hoover, 33, allowed two runs through four innings, but the Legends scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead in a game they won 15-5.

Last week, former Reds fan favorite Brandon Phillips, a Legends co-owner and player, announced via Twitter that the independent Atlantic League team signed Hoover, who posted a 4.12 ERA in 236 appearances for the Reds from 2012 to 2016.
