Lockland police officer fires at man who pointed gun


A Lockland police officer fired at a man who pointed a gun at him, officials with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.It happened Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of Wyoming Avenue. According to sheriff's deputies, a man, later identified as 22-year-old Dale Allen Smith III, attempted to fire shots at a Lockland police officer who was called to the scene. It is unclear why that officer was called to the scene in the first place. Authorities say the Lockland police officer then fired his weapon, but neither the officer nor Smith was wounded by gunfire.Authorities say Smith then ran from the area, hopping into a nearby car.At that point, multiple police agencies were called to assist, including additional officers with the Lockland Police Department, Cincinnati Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.According to officials, Smith's car later crashed in the 7900 block of Reading Road. As he attempted to run from the car, deputies say he was shocked with a stun gun by a Cincinnati police officer. Smith was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He has since been charged with attempted murder, aggravated robbery, resisting arrest and harassment with a bodily substance.The investigation is ongoing.
