Quarterback Drew Plitt (7) throws a pass during the first day of Cincinnati Bengals rookie camp at the Paul Brown Stadium practice field in downtown Cincinnati on Friday, May 13, 2022.

Free-agent quarterback Drew Plitt, a former Loveland High School standout who played the past five seasons for the Ball State University Cardinals, signed Wednesday with the Cincinnati Bengals, the team announced.

The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Plitt, 24, participated at the Bengals' rookie minicamp in May as a tryout player.

Plitt played in 46 career games for the Cardinals and completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 9,062 yards and 68 touchdowns. He also rushed for 423 yards and 14 TDs.

At Loveland, Plitt set a school record for career TD passes with 42. In 2013, he led the Tigers to a 14-0 record and Div. II state championship.

Plitt appeared last week on the Underqualified Knuckleheads podcast.

The Enquirer's Kelsey Conway reported via Twitter that backup quarterback Brandon Allen is expected to take the bulk of the reps at QB1 with Joe Burrow sidelined while recovering from his appendectomy.
