CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley held a press conference on Tuesday to update the public on the coronavirus pandemic.
Mayor Cranley addressed questions and concerns at Tuesday's press conference. He mentioned beforehand that Cincinnati Parks trails are open, but playgrounds and basketball courts and the like are closed. The carousel and Krohn Conservatory are also closed. Bathrooms are some park locations are open. from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Park bathrooms that are open include Smale Riverfront Park, Twin Lakes at Eden Park, and Burnett Woods among others.
Health Commissioner Melba Moore updated that there are four new cases of COVID-19. She also says that on March 13, a person in Hamilton County who tested positive for coronavirus visited two bars/night clubs in the area. KickbacksCincy and Celebrities Night Club are the two locations she identified. If anyone was at those nightclubs on March 13, they are asked to monitor themselves for symptoms.
When asked what he thought of President Trump's desire to reopen the country soon despite health officials saying that the pandemic is expected to peak in the beginning of May, Mayor Cranley said that he hopes this is all resolved soon but he will be following the orders of Ohio's Governor Mike DeWine.
The mayor also addressed a question about employees of companies who are required to go into work even if the work may be considered non-essential. Mayor Canley suggested that people with those concerns call (833) 427-5634 to report their concern and receive better clarification on whether or not their job is, in fact, essential.
Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac responded to a question about if any CPD officers have confirmed cases of coronavirus. He says that at this time that there aren't any confirmed cases yet but that the health and safety of the officers is definitely a priority. Cheif Isaac also said that while the department is concerned about contracting the virus, it will not impede their duty to serve and protect the community. All laws will be enforced.
