Burrow-to-Chase connections highlight the Bengals’ first scoring drive

A pair of Joe Burrow passes to former LSU teammate and 2021 first-round draft pick Ja'Marr Chase propeled the Cincinnati Bengals during their first scoring drive of the season.

"And that's why he was taken No. 5 overall by the Cincinnati Bengals - his ability to stretch the field and make big plays. That's one of the things that's been lacking from this offense the last couple years. They want to be more explosive," FOX color analyst Daryl Johnston said after Chase's first catch, a 17-yard reception on 3rd and 9.

Ja'Marr Chase #1 of the Cincinnati Bengals avoids a tackle from Bashaud Breeland #21 of the Minnesota Vikings after a reception during the first quarter at Paul Brown Stadium on September 12, 2021 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"So much for the issue of catching the football," Johnston added later after Chase's second catch of the drive, a 13-yard catch on 3rd and 7.

The touchdown came on a two-yard reception by Tee Higgins. And later in the first half, Chase scored his first NFL touchdown on a 50-yard catch from Burrow.
