Reds remain tied with Padres in Wild Card race

The Cincinnati Reds remained tied with the San Diego Padres in the National League Wild Card standings with their win Saturday night against the Miami Marlins at Great American Ball Park coupled with the San Diego Padres' 4-3 win in 10 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies at Petco Park.

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Kyle Farmer (17) reacts with first baseman Joey Votto (19) and second baseman Jose Barrero (38) after the game against the Miami Marlins at Great American Ball Park on Aug. 21.

The Padres ended a four-game losing streak. Trailing 3-1 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, they appeared headed for a fifth consecutive loss when Jake Cronenworth hit a two-run homer to tie the game, which San Diego won on a wild pitch in the 10th.

The Reds' 7-4 win was their third consecutive victory and seventh in 10 games.

The Reds and Padres both improved to 68-57, with 37 games remaining in the 2021 Major League Baseball season.
