Camping can be defined as taking a vacation in nature and lodging in a tent, RV or cabin. Camping activities typically include grilling food, hiking, fishing and other outdoor activities. The Greater Cincinnati area has an abundance of publicly and privately owned campsites – and your picnic baskets will be safe because Yogi Bear does not reside at any of them. Here are some that stand out.
North
8570 East Ohio 73, Waynesville.
The campground has 287 sites – of which 252 are electric and start at $29 per night. These sites facilitate both RVs and tents. The remaining 35 sites are full hookup sites for RVs, which include water and sewer, and start at $40 per night. Its activities include archery, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking.
6301 Park Office Road, College Corner.
This campground offers 228 campsites with electrical outlets starting at $27 per night and 137 non-electric campsites with vault latrines starting at $23 per night. The facility also offers picnic tables and fire rings at each site, showers, flush toilets, laundry, trailer waste stations, mini-golf, outdoor checkers, basketball and volleyball courts, and playgrounds.
5158 Kings Island Drive, Mason.
The luxury outdoor resort, which recently opened, is located less than a mile from Kings Island. It offers 73 cottages, starting at $179 per night, and 164 full-service RV spaces, starting at $99 per night. Amenities include recreational and adult-exclusive pools, ponds, a walking trail and unique dining options. There are also bathhouses, laundry facilities, fire pits, grills and picnic tables. Its Hornbeam Lodge houses Coyote Creek Camp Store and Ironwood Grill and Tap, which serves breakfast and all meals. Packages, which include Kings Island tickets with early admission, are available, too.
10174 Loveland Madeira Road, Loveland.
They have 68 tent sites, 12 pull-through sites, 14 back-ends and eight rustic cabins. Nightly rates start at $40 for tents, which include electric. RV rates start at $52.50 for back-ends and $65.50 for pull-throughs. Both have electric, sewer and water. Their cabins start at $78.30 per night. The campground offers port-o-let restrooms, potable water, picnic tables and gray water amenities.
760 Franklin Road, Lebanon.
This 30-acre campground offers 125 RV and tent sites, plus 10 cabins with cable TV. Tent sites start at $50 per night, back-end (water and electric only) RV rates start at $55 per night, pull-through (full hookup) start at $60 per night, deluxe patio sites (which include upgraded firepit with outdoor furniture and a gas grill) start at $73 per night, and cabins start at $100 per night. Amenities include a dump station, a general store that sells firewood and propane, laundry facilities and Wi-Fi.
9001 Mount Hope Road, Harrison.
The campground offers 46 sites, which start at $40 per night from April 2 to Oct. 31 and $32 per night in the off-season. It is equipped with 30-amp electric hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, a shower building, a playground and a dump station.
6985 Wilmington Road, Oregonia.
They offer full hookup, back-in and pull-through sites. Nightly rates start at $47 for pull-through sites, $42 for back-in sites, $75 plus lodging tax and $200 damage deposit for cabin rentals. Its amenities include a basketball court, camp store, catch and release fishing lake, dump station, free Wi-Fi, laundry, game room, playground, shower house and walking trails.
651 Lakeview Drive, Springfield Township.
The campground features 113 sites including 68 tent sites with 30-amp electric, picnic tables, fire rings; 25 RV back-in sites with full hookup; 12 RV pull-through sites with full hookup; and eight rustic camping cabins with one double and three single beds, kitchen table, electric, heat and air conditioning. Nightly rates from April 2 to Nov. 28 start at $40 for electric campsites, $52.50 for full hookup campsites, $65.50 for pull-through campsites and $68.50 for rustic cabins. Rates may vary during various times of the year. It also offers Wi-Fi access, a playground, washers and dryers, two dump stations and a camp store with a cafe.
South
1501 Race Track Road, Alexandria.
This 1,000-acre park has 83 camping spots; 47 of them have water and electricity. Nightly rates start at $20 for primitive tents, $25 for preferred primitive tents lakefront, $28 for RV sites, $35 for preferred RV lakefront sites, $41 for premium RVs/equestrian, and $55 for yurts. Amenities include 20 miles of horse trails, a 200-acre fishing lake, picnic areas, hiking, kayaking, canoes, paddleboats, sand volleyball, pickleball, tennis and cornhole.
3380 Beaver Road, Union.
The campground offers 62 campsites (which accommodate RVs or tents) with nightly rates starting at $38.16 with utility hookups, grills, a playground, a swimming pool, an onsite campground grocery store and access to bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities at the central service building. Plus, campers can visit Big Bone Lick’s museum and gift shop, watch the bison, hike, bird watch, picnic, swim, play tennis and explore the Discovery Trail, which has salt/sulfur trails that date back to the Ice Age.
Central
2837 Old Ohio 32, Batavia.
This campground offers 376 electric sites starting at $29 per night and 23 full hookup sites starting at $38 per night. They also offer showers and flush toilets, drinking water, bike and boat rentals, a boat ramp, miniature golf and a nature center.
2895 Lake Drive, Pleasant Plain.
It has over 100 campsites, most of which are electric and start at $25 per night. The non-electric sites start at $21 per night. The amenities include showers and flush toilets, a dump station, bike and boat rentals, a camp store, laundry facilities, volleyball and basketball courts, a playground and a fishing pier.
4699 Kellogg Ave., East End.
The facility is very close to the Ohio River and has 84 RV sites. Nightly rates start at $65. Amenities include full hookup, fire pit, Wi-Fi, fishing, and self-launching boat ramp.
