As students prepare to enter another historic school year, the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati says it wants to help ease the transition of pandemic-weary families by hosting its largest backpack drive to date.Currently the YMCA and its 10 local locations are collecting school supplies for students and teachers of all grade levels. The drive is set to last three weeks."We're also collecting items for teachers and just Dry Erase markers, Dry Erase erasers, all of those kinds of things that teachers might use, because we know teachers are also spending a lot of their own money to get the school year started," YMCA Chief Development Officer Alison Hansen said.People may donate items even if they are not members of a YMCA.Items being collected include:BackpacksMarkersWhiteboard markersErasersPaperGlue sticksCrayonsHighlightsNotebooksPencil pouchesHygiene items, like toothpaste and shampoo, are also being being collected.People may drop off items at any location or may donate online through a monetary donation or through its Amazon Wish List.Donations are being collected until Aug. 6. Volunteer are needed to stuff the backpacks that will be distributed to area elementary, middle and high schools on the week of Aug. 16.
