The torrential rainfall that hit the Cincinnati area beginning Wednesday evening into Friday evening caused damages to businesses and homes. People reported power outages, downed trees, and destruction of their property over the past three days.
The National Weather Service reported parts of Hamilton County received over five inches of rain. The areas that saw the highest amounts of rainfall include Mount Healthy, College Hill, Wyoming and Colerain Township.
Toppled trees and power outages
Thousands of Duke Energy customers across in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky experienced power outages that lasted hours in some cases beginning Wednesday night.
Residents fed up
A rally was held at the city hall in Norwood Friday as residents fed up with the flooding in their neighborhood demanded action. Those at the rally said the heavy rainfall on Wednesday damaged their homes and said it's a problem that's been occurring for years.
Businesses had to close temporally
Zip's Cafe in Mt. Lookout is closed this weekend due to flooding from heavy rains. In a Facebook post on Thursday, restaurant officials said they had "never seen Delta Ave. look quite like this." They plan to be closed through July 4.
Norwood children's clothing store, Castle House, also took to Facebook to let customers know they'll be closed for a while due to the flooding. They are one of many stores on Edwards Road that experienced significant flooding.
Businesses like Peace Love and Donuts also reported having to close early due to power outages.
Sewer backups and overland flooding reported
The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati said they received about 450 reports of possible sewer backups and overland flooding since Wednesday. The reports came from across its service area, with the vast majority coming from central Hamilton County.
