A man accused in incidents in three Northern Kentucky counties was shot multiple times by police before he was taken into custody in Newport on June 13, according to a report released by police Monday.
Jacob C. Roberts is accused of pointing a gun in a deputy's face in one county, shooting at police officers in another county and is reportedly linked to double homicide in a third county.
Roberts, 24, was arrested Friday after he was released from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He remains in the Hamilton County Justice Center on Tuesday morning awaiting extradition to charges from Campbell, Boone and Pendleton counties, according to the jail's website.
Fox19 reports that court documents show Roberts has been charged with murder in a May 28 double homicide. Dillon Carpenter and Madison Klups were shot to death in their home in Pendleton County.
Hamilton County's jail website lists the charges from Campbell County as attempted murder of a police officer.
Roberts is accused of shooting a pistol at two Kenton County Police Department officers after he got out of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt he was driving at about 5:09 a.m. on June 13, according to the report released to The Enquirer on Monday by Kentucky State Police.
Sgt. Paul Roemer and Patrolman Jason Deacon had pursued the car into a shopping center parking lot in front of a Planet Fitness in Newport, according to the report.
Police said Roberts shot the marked police cruiser and both officers returned fire. Roberts, a Covington resident, received multiple gunshot wounds, according to the report.
Less than an hour earlier, Boone County deputies responded to a complaint about drug activity in a parking lot in the 100 block of Mary Grubbs Highway in Walton.
In the 4:15 a.m. incident, Roberts is accused of pointing a gun in a Boone County Sheriff's deputy's face, according to KSP.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office said a man pointed a handgun in the face of a deputy, but the deputy was able to push the weapon away. The man then pointed the gun at another deputy before fleeing, according to the sheriff's office.
