Cincinnati to celebrate with freebies, deals

Whether you like the glazed or cake variety, with or without sprinkles, rounded or twisted, for National Donut Day, several Greater Cincinnati establishments are offering sweet deals on the sugary breakfast pastries.

National Donut Day began as a commemoration of the Salvation Army's service during World War I. Volunteers fried donuts to sustain soldiers fighting on the frontlines. Ever since Chicago first celebrated Donut Day in 1938, eateries across the nation celebrate it on the first Friday of June.
