Middletown officials believe a woman dumped around 40 rabbits in Smith Park. Now, a group of people are working to catch and rescue the rabbits.
According to Middletown Communications Manager, Shelby Quinlivan, a woman suspected of dumping the rabbits is being charged with abandonment.
As of noon, about 13 rabbits were found, none of the released rabbits were found deceased.
The Middletown Animal Control officer has been working to handle the situation, according to Quinlivan, who added that there are a number of criminal charges that will be determined against the woman who dumped the rabbits in the park
People have been posting videos and pictures on social media of their efforts to catch the rabbits running through the park.
Many have posted saying help is still needed to search and make sure all the rabbits are accounted for.
