Rachel Luba, the agent who represents Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Trevor Bauer among others, responded via Twitter on Monday to the decision to uphold Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos' two-game suspension, calling it "the biggest joke of all time" and asking Major League Baseball, "Are you kidding me?"
Bauer, who won the National League Cy Young Award for the Reds and was Castellanos' teammate in 2020, criticized the suspension earlier this month when MLB announced it, and retweeted Luba's tweet Monday with an additional "#freecastellanos."
Castellanos will serve the suspension Tuesday and Wednesday for his role in a benches-clearing skirmish with the Cardinals on April 3 at Great American Ball Park.
Earlier, New York Post columnist and MLB Network insider Joel Sherman questioned the Castellanos suspension - without suspending anyone else or even fining Cardinals pitcher Jake Woodford - in a pair of tweets.
Reds manager David Bell said earlier in the month that he was "disappointed" that Castellanos was suspended and fined for "aggressive actions and for instigating a benches-clearing incident." Castellanos also was the only player ejected from the game.
Michael Hill, Major League Baseball's senior VP for on-field operations and a Cincinnati Country Day School graduate, initially announced Castellanos' suspension as well as fines for several players.
