Chris Smitherman will not enter Cincinnati's 2021 mayoral race

Cincinnati Vice Mayor Chris Smitherman announced Thursday that he will not enter the 2021 mayoral race. The 53-year-old had bowed out of the mayoral race last year in wake of the death of his wife, Pamela. But Smitherman began circulating petitions earlier this year after Council member P.G. Sittenfeld, once considered a frontrunner in the race, was arrested on public corruption charges. After reassessing his options, Smitherman said Thursday that he has decided -- again -- not to run. "After much prayer and consideration, I have decided not to run for mayor. I look forward to serving the citizens of Cincinnati for the remainder of my term as vice mayor. My love for this city is strong and I will continue to pursue other ways to serve our community," he said. "I want to share my deepest appreciation to all who continue to extend love and support to me and my family."
