East Central dominates first round of 2021 IHSAA wrestling tournament

East Central rolled to the championship of the South Dearborn sectional as the IHSAA wrestling postseason began Saturday. The sectional is the first of four rounds of competition, including the state championships.

East Central had nine sectional champions: Carson Whitehead (113), Dylan Lengerich (120), Blake Wolf (126), Ben Wolf (152), David Nash (160), Bryer Hall (170), Samuel Ringer (182), Ryan Bovard (195), and Kole Viel (220). The Trojans advanced a wrestler to the regional round in every weight class but 106.

Blake Wolf, a state runner-up last year, only had to wrestle two matches and won both by first-period pin. He is 22-1 overall.

South Dearborn had one champion in senior Eli Otto, who had two pins in the tournament before edging Charlie Euson of East Central 1-0 in the final. Otto is 29-2 this season.

The host Knights sent seven wrestlers to the regional round.

Lawrenceburg had one sectional champion, junior Corbin Walston at 138. Walston, the No. 3 seed, beat top seed Rider Searcy of East Central in the final and is 25-3 overall.

The Tigers sent six to the regional round.

126: Championship – Blake Wolf (East Central) d. Isaiah Otto (South Dearborn) fall 1:20; Third place – Adam Bousman (Rushville) d. Gavin McGuire (Connersville) fall 0:48.
