Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson advocated for the team to consider former Cincinnati Bengals player and current Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for its head coaching vacancy - based on a suggestion from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in addition to "nothing but great things" Watson said he's heard about Bieniemy - according to a report Thursday night via Twitter from SI.com's Albert Breer.
But the Texans haven't interviewed Bieniemy.
The Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions and New York Jets have confirmed that they've completed interviews this week with Bieniemy. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers also have interviewed him.
NBC Sports' Peter King told WEEI's Dale & Keefe he thinks "Deshaun Watson is probably pretty upset that the Texans won't even interview Eric Bieniemy." ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported something similar via Twitter:
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported via Twitter that Watson is "extremely unhappy with the organization."
ESPN's Ryan Clark offered criticism via Twitter:
Bieniemy played for the Bengals from 1995 to 1998. He became the Chiefs' offensive coordinator in Jan. 2018 after coaching the team's running backs for five seasons.
