Nate Mahon will not be returning next season as the head football coach at Hamilton High School.
The news was announced by Hamilton Athletic Director Melissa Harvey on Twitter.
"The search for the next HHS (Hamilton High School) football head coach will begin immediately as Big Blue looks forward to a new chapter in its storied history as a proud member of the most competitive conference in the state of Ohio — the GMC," the Tweet said.
Mahon, a 2003 Hamilton graduate, went 13-17 in the Greater Miami Conference over three seasons and took the Big Blue to the playoffs twice (2019, 2020).
Hamilton has yet to win a postseason game in program history (0-6).
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to (coach) for your alma mater, your high school, and the program that helped build you," Mahon said when he was hired by Hamilton in 2018.
Prior to coming to Hamilton, Mahon had a three-year stint at Little Miami where he went 19-13 and led the Panthers to their first playoff appearance since 1992. Little Miami beat Southwest Ohio Conference-rival Edgewood in the first round of the OHSAA playoffs that season, 10-7.
Mahon was also the head coach for three seasons at Northwest from 2013-2015, going 21-12 with a pair of postseason appearances. Northwest went 9-3 and won a playoff game in 2013 in Mahon's first season.
