HAMILTON–Due to the recent spread of the coronavirus, Hamilton High School has stopped extracurricular activity for a little more than a week. This includes athletics. The following was posted on Hamilton's athletic website:
Due to recent developments with COVID, all extra-curricular activities will be suspended from Friday, January 14, through Sunday, January 23, 2022. This includes any scheduled games, practices, and performances.
Hamilton City Schools are scheduled for remote learning starting Jan. 18 with a scheduled return to school Jan. 24. In a communication to the district, Hamilton City Schools Superintendent Michael Holbrook said:
"The district understands this is a significant schedule change, but given the spread of illness over the past week with both staff and students, the safety and the well-being of our students and staff is the priority. If you have additional questions, please reach out to your building principal for assistance. We appreciate the support of our parents and community during these challenging times."
Added Hamilton High Athletic Director Melissa Harvey, "The district made the decision to go to remote learning due to the number of absences in the district. They included canceling all practices and games through that same time period. That keeps all of our students and staff home and hopefully will curb the spread of Covid any further. We're allowed to resume practices and events on Jan. 24. We will work with the opposing schools and try to make up as many events as possible."
Among the events that will be missed are boys basketball games with Colerain, at Sycamore, La Salle, Oak Hills and at Middletown. The Big Blue features 7-foot Cincinnati Bearcat signee Sage Tolentino. Girls basketball will miss contests with Fairfield, Oak Hill, and at Lakota West.
Hamilton wrestling will miss the Sycamore Invitational this weekend and a duel meet with Talawanda. Bowling will miss matches with Northwest, Mason and the Cardinal Classic Jan. 22-23. Swimming will miss a meet at Miami University.
