CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The suspect in the murder of a woman in Avondale appeared in court Monday. The attorney for Shaneisha Heath said the victim was harming his client's daughter at the time of the murder.
“The 3-year-old was in the house at the time this happened. The 3-year-old was the subject of the deceased’s attention. The deceased was harming the 3-year-old, according to witnesses,” said the attorney.
Police said Heath shot Karissa Caldwell on Rockdale Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 17. Caldwell was taken to UC Medical Center but she died from her injuries.
Heath turned herself in and gave police the murder weapon, according to her attorney. The attorney did not say how Caldwell was allegedly harming Heath's daughter. He did say there were witnesses.
During a Facebook Live video, Heath says she’s on her way downtown to turn herself in and that she’s not a killer. She later claims Caldwell grabbed her baby by the throat.
“Y'all know how she get. She just picked my baby up by her neck hold my baby up like this (grabbing throat)," said Heath in the video.
The prosecution did not comment on that allegation.
A judge ordered Heath held on a $1 million bond. A grand jury is set for Jan. 31.
