SWAT situation ends after Avondale shooting

AVONDALE, Ohio (WKRC) - Police are investigating after a father allegedly shot his own adult son at an Avondale apartment building. A SWAT team was called in to search for Curtis Wisdom, 46, but they did not find him.

Police were called to the Beechwood Apartments on Forest Ave. around 8:30 a.m.

A woman who wanted to remain anonymous said she heard four or five gunshots and then saw the victim. She was on the seventh floor of the Beechwood apartments.

“I was getting on the elevator and then I seen a guy laying on the ground and he told me to call 911, which is what I was going to do anyways, but then I said, 'Who did this to you?' and he said his dad did it.”

The victim is in critical condition.

Wisdom faces felonious assault and domestic violence charges. He was last seen wearing a black sock hat and a black trench coat.

After hearing about acts of recent gun violence in Cincinnati, Pastor Ennis Tait called it an urgent cry for the community to step up.

“At this point, as prompted to do something this morning to really speak out about the violence in our city. We want to do more than just talk about it; we want to actually have a plan that’s really going to be impactful in the lives of those that were trying to save,” Tait said.

Tait held a news conference Wednesday morning to discuss a new vision.

“Wherever we go, whatever we do, you hear us chanting ‘See something, say something,’ and that is a very strong message. It is a worthwhile message, but what we want to do now is we want to reevaluate how we are asking the community to get involved,” Tait said.

While Tait said it takes a village, he’s hopeful the community will put forth their best foot to try and resolve the issue of gun violence.

“As advocates, we're committed to not only working together, but we’re committed to saving the lives of the city in Cincinnati,” Tait said.

Tait is holding a march Thursday at 4:30 p.m. on the corner of Reading and Helen roads. That march is in regards to a weekend shooting in Walnut Hills that took the life of a pregnant woman.
