A University of Cincinnati pharmacy student is swapping the white coat for a sash as she represents Ohio in the Miss USA pageant.
Nicole Wess, who was crowned Miss Ohio USA this year, will compete with other hopefuls from across the country in the Miss USA pageant on Monday at the River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Wess grew up in West Chester and is currently a third-year student in UC's James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy. In addition to pharmacy school and her involvement in pageants, Wess also works at St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy in downtown Cincinnati and in the UC Medical Center vaccine clinic.
She's also been involved with St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen, Hands Against Hunger and Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization headquartered in Cincinnati.
"At the end of the day I knew my calling was always to help other people," Wess told UC News. "I knew I wanted to be in a field where I could help people and use something I’m really interested in to pursue as a career.”
