After surviving a scare from Tulsa on a day the nation had its eyes glued to Cincinnati, the Bearcats will await the latest rankings from the College Football Playoff selection committee on Tuesday night with hopes to receive a warmer reception from the 13-member team than last week.
Cincinnati (9-0) was slated sixth by the committee in its first ranking of the season on Nov. 2, despite an undefeated record, a top-10 win and a No. 2 ranking from the Associated Press.
The ranking quickly drew ire from the fanbase, particularly evidenced on ESPN College GameDay, which came to Cincinnati last Saturday for the first time only to be greeted by a rambunctious crowd toting retaliatory signs.
Last week's 28-20 win over Tulsa in American Athletic Conference action did little to provide "style points" to national pundits and the committee, but a loss from third-ranked Michigan State could potentially propel the Bearcats forward in the CFP rankings.
Cincinnati again held its No. 2 ranking in the Associated Press poll that was released on Sunday.
