A driver was taken into custody after leading police on a chase in a stolen car before crashing into a fence at Mount Healthy High School Athletic Center.It happened Sunday at 1:57 a.m. when Officer Raymond Seehousen saw a vehicle traveling northbound on Hamilton Avenue that matched the description of a vehicle stolen in Covington, Kentucky. Seehousen followed the vehicle and confirmed it was the car reported stolen during an aggravated burglary. The vehicle abruptly turned into the Hilltop Shopping Center where Seehousen attempted to stop and hold the vehicle and occupants until backup arrived. The occupants of the vehicle were uncooperative and as additional police units arrived on scene, an attempt was made to tactically extract the occupants from the vehicle. As the passenger exited the vehicle, the driver sped off, leading officers on a brief chase which resulted in the vehicle crashing into the fence at Mount Healthy High School Athletic Center. The driver then abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot into the wooded area adjacent to the football field. A Springfield Township canine was able to track the suspect and locate him hiding in the wooded area. He was taken into custody and has been identified as Bradley Scharstein.He was taken to University Hospital for treatment and will be held at the Hamilton County Justice Center. Covington Police will conduct the follow-up investigation.
