Dog survives fall off 170-foot cliff at Red River Gorge in Kentucky

A situation at Red River Gorge that began with a "frantic" phone call about a dog going over a cliff ended with "a joyful reunion," a rescue group said.

The Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team said they were dispatched about 1 p.m. Sunday in response to a 911 call from a hiker who said their dog "had fallen off the 170-foot cliff" at Frog's Head in the geological area southeast of Lexington "after chasing a lizard over the edge."

A rescue team was dispatched, which then ran into another group of hikers who said they'd seen "an unleashed dog roaming the area."

"The hikers shared a picture they had taken of the K9," the group said on Facebook. "When the hasty team made contact with the dog owner and showed them the photo, to our absolute amazement, this was their fur baby, Tyson (a Pitbull mix)."

"How Tyson survived 170' fall is nothing short of miraculous and he was basically unhurt," the group said.
