The Columbus Zoo is mourning the loss of its African Lion, Kazi.The zoo said Kazi died on Tuesday at nearly 16 years old.Zoo officials said Kazi was having some changes in gait, which prompted the animal care team to perform some scans on her which showed spinal arthritis and secondary spinal cord compression.The zoo said while Kazi initially responded well to medical treatment, her mobility started to decline significantly, and the zoo made the decision to perform humane euthanasia.The zoo said Kazi lived a long life, with the median life expectancy for lions in humane care being around 16 years old."We will miss Kazi tremendously, and her legacy will live on with the pride," the zoo said in a post. Kazi was born on Oct. 25, 2006, at Denver Zoo and arrived at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium from Denver on Sept. 17, 2007.
