XFL head coaches announced their quarterback selections, with the Arlington Renegades taking former Loveland High School standout and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Drew Plitt, and the St. Louis Battlehawks adding former Bengals quarterback A.J. McCarron.
Plitt completed all six of his attempts in the Bengals' first preseason game against Arizona. Cincinnati waived him in August.
McCarron, who played his first four NFL seasons in Cincinnati after the Bengals drafted him in the fifth round in 2014, worked out for the Cleveland Browns in July.
Former Bengals quarterback Bruce Gradkowski is the Battlehawks' offensive coordinator. Former Bengals assistant coaches and Jonathan and Jay Hayes are coordinators for the Renegades.
Quotes from Renegades head coach Bob Stoops about Plitt, and Battlehawks head coach Anthony Becht about McCarron:
"We are excited to add Drew Plitt to the Arlington Renegades," said head coach Bob Stoops. "Drew had an impressive college career at Ball State and performed well in training camp this year with the Cincinnati Bengals. We look forward to seeing what he can do in the XFL."
"A.J. brings us a championship pedigree," said head coach Anthony Becht. "He has seven years of NFL experience as a starting and backup quarterback. Unfortunately, A.J. battled through several injuries during that time which limited him from playing additional games. I feel like his time is now. A.J. will bring a very high football IQ, great leadership qualities, and invaluable experience to the St. Louis Battlehawks team."
Jim Haslett, the Bengals' linebackers coach for three seasons from 2016 to 2018, is the Seattle Sea Dragons' head coach.
The XFL is scheduled to kick off in February.
