Renowned local French chef dies Friday after battle with cancer


A renowned local French chef in Cincinnati has died on Friday at the age of 61. Chef Jean-Robert de Cavel died in his sleep today as a result of a 5-year battle with soft tissue cancer.de Cavel began his culinary life in France. He came to Cincinnati in 1993 to become the head chef de cuisine at the longest-reigning five-star restaurant in the United States, La Maisonette. He developed multiple restaurants throughout greater Cincinnati including, Table, Pigalls, French Crust and Le Bar e Beouf. Last year, Cincinnati renamed Seventh Street at Vine in de Cavel's honor on his 60th birthday.de Cavel leaves behind his wife, Annette Pfund de Cavel and his beloved daughter, Leticia. “Cincinnati will miss a wonderful, loving chef. But my daughter and I will miss our husband and dad the most,” says Annette de Cavel.Funeral arrangements have not been decided at this time.
