Moeller captures ninth baseball state title

For the ninth time in program history, the Men of Moeller are kings of the diamond.The Crusaders won their ninth baseball state championship in 13 tries Saturday, taking down Olentangy Orange, 4-1, from Canal Park in Akron."I don't really know what to feel, having all the boys run at me," Zion Theophilus, sophomore pitcher, said. "I love my teammates and I love this team.""I'm pretty sure we just broke our school record for stolen bases," senior Toby Hueber added. "It was our game plan, but that's always our game plan."Nathan Manley, Moeller senior catcher, continued the excitement, saying "It's always exciting, but this was expected from us and so it's just really relieving to know that we finally did it."In hoisting the trophy, Moeller caps their year winning 31 games, losing just three times on the season, two of which came during an early April tournament in Las Vegas against Canada's Vauxhall Academy and Colorado's Regis Jesuit.Elder handed Big Moe their third loss, on April 24.Moeller went a perfect 17-0 at home this spring and is currently riding a 16-game winning streak into the championship game. In the playoffs, Big Moe allowed one or fewer run in five of their seven games, including both games played at Canal Park.
