Lightning and Hail Slow the AM Drive

Lightning and Hail Slow the AM Drive

KELLY: MORE GOOD NEWS FOR SUNDAY, THIS WEATHER SYSTEM WILL BE BEYOND US. YOU DO HAVE TO BE AWARE OF IT THIS MORNING. IT IS RAIN BUT WITH THE CHANCE OF STORMS AND SMALL HAIL. RANDI: SOME POCKETS AND HEAVIER DOWNPOURS SLOWING PEOPLE DOWN SOUTH OF THE 71/75 SPLIT. RIGHT NOW, IT IS SITTING ACROSS THE 71/75 SPLIT. YOU CAN SEE MORE INTENSE STORMS WEAKENING AS THEY MOVED TO THE NORTHEAST AND INTO OUR REGION. WE ARE LOOKING AT A VERY INTENSE RAIN RIGHT AT THE 75 SPLIT AND THROUGH PORTIONS OF BOONE AND KENTON COUNTY’S. THESE AREAS WHERE YOU SEE THE PINK NEAR UNION AND INDEPENDENCE, I WOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SOME OF THAT PEA-SIZED HAIL THAT HAS BEEN WRITING UP I-71 FOR THE PAST FEW HOURS. IT TAKES IT DIRECTLY ALONG 71 SO IT SHOULD BE RIGHT OVER THE 71/75 SPLIT AND THAT WILL MOVE INTO AREAS OF CENTRAL KENTON COUNTY. AS WE LOOK TOWARDS THE 275 LOOP, SOME RAIN AND MAY BE LITTLE HAIL. WE HAVE SOME HEAVIER RAIN BACK TOWARDS MANCHESTER. ANOTHER HAIL CORE HERE NEAR PENDLETON COUNTY. THAT AREA OF HAIL MOVING IS WAY UP TOWARDS 27 IN AREAS NEAR BUTLER AND PENDLETON COUNTY. PEA-SIZED HAIL, IS BEEN THE RULE WITH THE SYSTEM AS IT MOVED IN. THISIS SYSTEM IS MOVING IN THROUGH CRESCENT SPRINGS IN THE NEXT TWO OR THREE MINUTES. YOU HAVE THE LEADING EDGE OF THE THUNDER, LIGHTNING, HEAVY RAIN AND PERHAPS HAIL AS WE HAD 7:00 A.M.. THIS WILL SLOW THINGS DOWN. THERE ARE MORE LINES OF STORMS BEHIND IT. YOU CAN SEE MORE INTENSE BANDS OF RAIN AND LIGHTNING. THAT IS WRITING UP THE OHIO RIVER AND MOVING IN OUR DIRECTION. WE ARE IN FOR A STORMY START OF THE DAY AND THE POTENTIAL OF THESE DOWNPOURS COULD CAUSE AREAS OF STANDING WATER. WE HAD SOME FOG EARLIER, THAT WILL MOVE OUT AS THE RAIN MOVES IN. ONCE WE GET INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON, THE COLD FRONT WILL HAVE PASSED US BY. OUR HIGH IS AROUND LUNCHTIME AT 55° AND THEN OUR TEMPERATURES START TO SLIDE. WE ALSO HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR LIGHTNING AND THE SECOND PART OF THE DAY. I WOULD ANTICIPATE THOSE TEMPERATURES KEEP ON FALLING THROUGH THE 40’S AND EVENTUALLY TONIGHT, WHATEVER IS LEFT OVER WILL TRANSITION INTO SNOW. HERE’S THE FUTURECAST SHOWING THE HEAVIER RAIN MOVING INTO THE 275 LOOP. YOU CAN ANTICIPATE SLOWER DRIVE TIMES AS WE GO THROUGH THE MORNING COMMUTE. ONCE WE GET INTO THE LATE MORNING WE HAD A LULL IN THE ACTION. THEN THE COLD FRONT COMES THROUGH JUST AFTER LUNCHTIME. IT COULD BRING ANOTHER BATCH OF LIGHTNING AND WIND THROUGH OUR SOUTHERNMOST TOWNS. AS HER TEMPERATURES FALL OVERNIGHT, WE TRANSITION INTO SOME SNOW SHOWERS DROPPING TO FREEZING TOMORROW MORNING. HOPEFULLY, THE IMPACT IS LOW BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR SNOW SHOWERS TO CAUSE ISOLATED SLICK SPOTS. I ANTICIPATE FLURRIES STICKING AROUND ON FRIDAY. TODAY IT IS 55° WITH RAIN AND THUNDER, TOMORROW SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS. SATURDAY YOU GET SOME SUNSHINE AND ON SUNDAY FOR THE BENGALS GAME, PLAN ON LOW 30’S

Tracking storms for the morning rush and showers through the day. Late tonight leftover rain turns to snow.
