The expression "nothing good happens after midnight" apparently does not apply to Joey Votto tweets.
The Cincinnati Reds' first baseman and former National League Most Valuable Player had a hilarious response early Saturday morning to a video tweeted Friday by Major League Baseball of Atlanta Braves phenom Michael Harris II assessing whether he has more pop than several players apparently chosen at random.
The last player in the video was Votto. Harris appeared to think about it for an extra second before smiling and saying that he has more pop than Votto.
"More pop than ME?!?" Votto tweeted. "You may have more power, but in MY fridge, I def have more pop. Sometimes my guests come over parched."
Harris, the 2022 National League Rookie of the Year, hit 19 home runs in 441 plate appearances in his first big-league season.
Votto hit 11 home runs in 376 plate appearance in an injury-shortened 2022 season, but hit 36 homers in 2021. The six-time All-Star has hit 342 homers in 16 MLB seasons.
