From music to painting to sculpture and science, art comes to life at the Contemporary Arts Center, and staffer Kate Elliott says there is something for everyone.“We really strive to make creativity accessible to people of all ages.”Visitors say that creativity awakens and inspires the artistic spirit. "We know that it is important to have a place in the community where you can come and express yourself." As soon as you come off the elevator on the sixth floor, the sign on the wall says "Creativity Center," but you don’t just leave that creativity on the walls of the museum. You take it home and share that expression throughout your world. Describing the space, Elliott says the open plan is intentionally promoting play and exploration.“Half of the floor is considered the un-museum with this wonderful tunnel created by Pam Kravitz and her collaborators. There are soft bones of soft sculptures that can be moved and you can throw balls at them.”Like the best of art, The Creativity Center brings wonder into everyday lives. From Newport Aquarium Penguin visits to science labs, the activities of the CAC’s Creativity Center are free for all visitors, transporting artists into the vision behind the canvas.Elizabeth Hardin-Klink describes the space as magical and interactive.“It's not like your traditional museum where you can’t touch the art and have to be careful. Everything here is interactive and playful and fun.”Beyond that fun, Hardin-Klink says, are the true lessons behind the best art that art can be found and carried everywhere. “It's just a really great place to be and kind of perfect classroom to teach at," Hardin-Klink said.
