Matthew 25: Ministries departs to Mississippi for tornado relief

Forty-eight hours after devastating storms roared through Mississippi, Matthew 25: Ministries is on the move.Matthew 25's disaster response coordinator Ben Williams said he knew his teams would be activated as soon as he saw the storm's path of destruction.“We were watching this real-time when the storm blew through and we knew this would be a situation we would need to respond to,” Williams said.The Blue Ash-based ministry responds to disaster scenes around the world as a beacon of hope. Their light will now shine on tornado-ravaged Mississippi as a lifeline. “When our team gets to these areas," Williams said. "It’s a transformation. They go through from looks of despair, and they see our team and they get a smile.”At least 26 have lost their lives in the small towns that populate the area northwest of Jackson, Mississippi. Hundreds remain homeless and thousands are without power. Williams described the heavy-duty Matthew 25 response vehicles and trailers will be a convoy to normalcy. “We will have supplies, donated by Procter and Gamble, Cintas, personal care kits, first aid- we also have the Duracell power truck with charging stations," Williams said. "We'll also have Tide loads of hope so that we can do laundry for people as well.”With local corporate sponsors on board, this Matthew 25 response team will be on the ground at the heart of the storm’s wake. Williams says they are ambassadors of the Queen City’s Goodwill.“We always get the question where did you come from and we say Cincinnati, and they are always in disbelief that we would come from such a distance to bring them support and it speaks to the incredible support that we get from the Cincinnati community every time something like this happens," Williams said.After a quick briefing, a few hugs and a lingering smile and wave, the responders are on the way, rolling towards south I-71.
