MIKE ASHLEY, I JUST CONFIRMED WITH GRANT COUNTY OFFICIALS THAT ALL SEVEN PEOPLE THAT WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL EARLIER TODAY WERE RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL. BUT AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THIS WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING SITUATION HERE AT THE GRANT COUNTY DETENTION CENTER. IT WAS DESCRIBED TO ME THAT AS SOON AS PEOPLE WALKED INTO THAT CELL, THEY DROPPED LIKE FLIES. NOW, THIS IS WHAT WE KNOW. SO FAR. JAILER MIKE WEBSTER, A NURSE AND FOUR DEPUTY JAILERS, RESPONDED TO AN INMATE HAVING A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. NOW, AT SOME POINT AFTER THEY ENTERED THE CELL, ALL SIX STAFFERS WERE EXPOSED TO AN UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE. WILLIAMSTOWN FIREFIGHTERS CONFIRMING THAT IN TOTAL, SEVEN PEOPLE HAD TO BE NARCAN AND TREATED FOR AN OVERDOSE. THE KENTUCKY STATE POLICE IN GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ARE HANDLING THIS INVESTIGATION AND WORKING TO REMOVE ANY POSSIBLE CONTRABAND FROM THE FACILITY. The Grant County Sheriff's Office is investigating after six employees at the Grant County Detention Center were exposed to an unknown substance. According to the sheriff's office, Jailer Mike Webster along with four other deputy jailers and a nurse responded to a medical emergency in a cell on Tuesday. The employees were exposed to a contraband substance during the response, the sheriff said. Employees were given Narcan and treated for overdose. Williamstown Firefighters confirmed seven people in total were treated with Narcan. All individuals have since been released from the hospital. Officials have not stated what specific substance the employees were exposed to. An investigation is ongoing. Kentucky State Police is assisting the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation and helping to remove the contraband from the facility.
