Bengals select Myles Murphy with first pick of 2023 NFL Draft

It's April. You're supposed to be talking about baseball, you're supposed to be talking about hockey playoffs. No, this is what you talk about in Cincinnati and teams like Cincinnati, you know, when you're *** super bowl contender, cities, talk about this team year round. So Olivia Ray, our sports reporter here and weekend sports anchor talking about the NFL draft coming up *** week from today and also some of the key things going on with the team. So let's just start with the draft, Kansas City, they're holding it next Thursday 28th pick when you win, you get *** pick that's that deep into the draft. But there are *** lot of great players out there. Do you think they go tight end with that first pick? I know they're saying best available, but if you had to guess just *** prediction, you think they go tight end. Here's my guess. Duke Tobin is going to pick the best available player that's on the board. He said that about 75 times today in his pre draft press conference, but he definitely didn't take tight end off the table. And I think when the Bengals signed free agent er Smith, *** veteran in this league. Then they resign *** former second round pick Drew Sample who's been on this roster. He's familiar with the Bengals. I think everyone thought, ok, that room no longer needs to be addressed in the draft. Duke Tobin did not say that he also didn't rule out taking *** running back in the first round which we know the stigma around that there are some pretty good running backs really only *** couple of blue chip players, I would say at the top of there um in that running back room, but the Bengals running back room is now pretty thin there and could be thinner based on some things that we are hearing all rumors. But again, Duke Tobin didn't take running back or tighten off of the table. Why not give Joe Burrow some more tools? Let's go there with running back for just *** second. Kansas City gets *** guy in the seventh round Pacheco who can play. So I don't know if you need to take *** running, but you said blue chippers like the kid from Alabama who's blazing fast. I don't know if you need to take *** running back in the first round, but if you get *** good running back, you feel really good about in the first three or four rounds. What does that mean for Joe Mixon? $12.5 million salary for next year? There's rumors that they've asked him to take *** pay cut. They could save 7.5 mil by cutting him. They'd have to take *** $5 million dead cap hit. My question is, do you think they would cut just outright cut Joe Mixon if they got *** running back they liked in the first three or four, I'm not going to make assumptions here, but Joe Mixon is *** leader in that room. He's *** leader on that team. We're going to keep the off the field stuff out of this right now. But that's the vibe I get when I'm in the locker room, is that guys look to him and I don't know they want him to be around, he removing *** veteran running back. If you're going to bring in *** rookie, bring in some fresh legs, right? Because that room is pretty much empty. At this point, you have *** couple guys there but you need some depth there and I did want to touch on this. I was gonna come over to your desk and tell you this, but I saw *** comment from Jamir Gibbs. He's *** running back. I don't know about top 55 pick potentially, I guess, I believe *** Georgia Tech transfer and I saw people drawing comparisons to Marshall Faulk to him. That's not *** bad room to be in, right. It's easy to call somebody *** hall of famer before they step onto the NFL football field. But yes, so lots of options. Uh Running back, I would go ahead and rule Bejon Anderson out of that equation. He's going early in that draft quicker game here *** B or C if Michael Mayer is available to tie it in from Notre Dame, Dalton Kincade, the guy from Utah and Darnell Washington, the six ft seven monster from Georgia guys like that. Which tight end would you take out of those three if he was, if they were available and they're picking *** tight end? Well, I'm biased and I hope the Bengals are *** little biased, right? Why not take the local kid who was *** stud? And by the way, I covered him are his recruiting process at Notre Dame when I was up in South Bend. So very familiar with the name Michael Mayer, even before I got to Cincinnati, people have been talking about the cuff cast star for ages. He did take one of the Bengals top 30 visits this Monday, which is significant because the Bengals could have worked him out on Tuesday. By the way, they had 30 local players in and they could have not wasted that top 30 pick on Michael Mayer. They could have just shuffled him in with the rest of those local guys on Tuesday and they made *** statement by saying like, look, no, you're coming in on Monday. We're meeting with you one on one. So I do think that is significant player signings that we have on the roster. Now, the Bengals do Joe Burrow T Higgins Logan Wilson. Today Duke Tobin was talking about, you know, where are you going to sign these guys? And he said, I'm not sure if or when we're going to sign them, which kind of scares Bengals fans *** little bit because you're thinking if it's, when you're going to get all three of them, do you think they, I mean, obviously Joe Burrough is going to be signed, they're not going to let him get away. But of those other two T Higgins, Logan Wilson, do you think they get them both under contracts? I think it's *** priority. And I know that Duke Tobin danced around that today, but he was adamant about that when he was asked about each of these players, what, *** month ago at the NFL combine in, in, in. And he said, you know, it's *** priority to get each one of these guys resigned. Logan Wilson in the building. He's here working out right now in these voluntary, voluntary off season workouts. I don't think that was ever in question that he would sit out T Higgins, I'm sure is making his way. I think he was hitting up, he and Jamar were hitting up *** couple of the, um, NBA playoff game. So, you know, it was important there, but he, uh, I think that right now where it stands on the process, I wouldn't be surprised if Joe Burrow is waiting to see one of his main weapons get resigned before you know, we hear news about Joe Burrow's contract. The Bengals are probably gonna make sure Burrough is the first one announced, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's waiting for those others to be signed before his gets done. We don't know if, uh, Jonah Williams will be here at right tackle. That's where they want him. We don't know if he's going to stay well. He has to unless they trade him. Obviously, Chito is coming back at corner off that AC L. He says he's 100% who knows on that? Those are some of those positions you're looking at. If I made you Olivia Olivia Tobin just for this draft, what do you think the top two or three biggest needs in order are for the Bengals to focus on in the draft? If you were the G M? Forget what Tobin says. This is Olivia's pick. First of all, I'd be electric in *** war room on draft night. I think I would own it. I can bring the heat, especially in sports debates, but I wouldn't rule out *** defensive lineman, right? This Bengals pass rush is thin. You watch them not touch, lay *** finger really on Patrick Mahomes who was essentially dancing around on one leg in that AFC championship game. Duke Tobin didn't rule it out. He never has before, which is the funny part. And he was reading some of, um, the beat writer comments about how he's never taken ad lineman in the first or second round of the draft. So he's, he made note of that and made *** joke. Maybe this is the year. So I would say D line, I don't think it's totally out of the question to do tight end have some depth at that room where the Bengals just really weren't explosive in that. And I understand that's part of their offense. They're going to go to Jamar Chase and T Higgins. But I think tight end and running back early isn't, isn't crazy. It really isn't, uh, maybe safety, I don't know, add, add to that room *** little bit. You already have some youngsters there but also need to address the secondary. My little sleeper would be pass rush first when I was *** kid. My dad told me it's *** game of quarterbacks and pass rush. If you get pressure on the quarterback, it doesn't matter how good that other quarterback is suddenly he is not as good. I would not be surprised if they just went right out there and grabbed somebody who can rush the quarterback. I mean, they're 28th or 30th in the league last year in sacks. You need to make *** difference there. That, that's *** glaring weakness. Just some predictions real quick before we finish this up. Jonah Williams. Will he be here first game of the year? Next year. Regular season. Yes or no. I think he will. Duke Tobin said it, I think pretty definitively today. He said he's *** part of our team. He's an important part of our team right now. And so it sounded like they're not shopping around. I know Jonah requested *** trade, but I think if, if they could slot him in at that right tackle, I don't think there's much of *** competition there. And you've noticed you've been in some NFL locker rooms over the years covering different teams. You've noticed that the chemistry here and you hear all the players who come here, say it, it, it's about the best you can get, you know, as far as how guys get along and step up for each other and all that sort of thing. So the draft is immensely important and they have *** unique way of drafting players. They really do go after those character guys, they go after captains of their high school teams, captains of their college teams. Uh, so they really do have an interesting strategy. It seems to be working thus far. Yeah. Hi. Hi. We're saying that Michael thing right there. He'd be so good and he's, he's £260 and he's faster than most tight ends at like 652 60 and he's *** great blocker. So maybe these, these other guys that are *** little more dynamic, catching the football, but he's *** great blocking tight end and I think he'd be *** great addition, described him as *** big hosts that can move and he loves the Bengals. He grew up as ***, I'm *** big host that can't move by the way. But, uh, he loves the Bengals, Michael. He, he, he was interviewed well at Notre Dame. He said I'm *** big Joe Burrow fan. I'm *** big, uh, Bengals fan. So that would be awesome. The only thing that works in the Bengals favor right now is how deep that tied in class is right now. They could slow down if he could slide down. I would not be surprised if he's off the board. Well, before 28. All right. I think we'll do this again at some point.
