MIAMI — Nick Lodolo has been placed on the 15-day IL due to a calf injury, the Cincinnati Reds announced Sunday.
The transaction comes after the left-handed pitcher was scheduled to start Saturday against the Miami Marlins but was scratched Friday night. Jim Day first reported the news on Bally Sports Cincinnati, saying Lodolo will return to Cincinnati to be evaluated.
Day said Lodolo has been dealing with an ankle issue that has extended to his calf.
Lodolo's last outing was on May 6 in a 5-3 win over the White Sox. He pitched only 3.2 innings. The 25-year-old is 2-1 this season with a 6.29 ERA in seven games. He's struck out 47 batters.
Taken in the first round of the 2019 draft, Lodolo made his MLB debut in 2022.
The Reds (17-21) announced that Derek Law would be starting Saturday in Lodolo's place. Law has pitched 18 games in the 2023 season, and he played a total of 1.1 innings against the Marlins on Saturday. He allowed 1 hit and 1 walk during the game, which the Reds ending up winning 6-5.
Other than Lodolo's IL listing, righty Casey Legumina was also placed on 15-day IL due to a right ankle contusion. Pitchers Reiver Sanmartin and Connor Overton were both transferred to the 60-day IL.
Righty Kevin Herget was recalled from Louisville, and right-handed pitchers Alan Busenitz and Silvino Pracho were also contracted.
The Reds closed out their series in Miami Sunday against the Marlins losing 3-1.
