Jill Biden tests negative for COVID-19, will go to Delaware
>> TONIGHT, FIRST LADY JILL BIDEN IS SAID TO BE "FEELING BETTER" AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED WITH COVID-19. BUT, IT IS MORE PROOF THAT THIS VIRUS ISN’T DONE WITH US YET. >> HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS IS DR. DANIEL KURITZKES AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE SPECIALIST AT BRIGHAM AND WOMEN’S HOSPITAL. DR. KURITZKES THANKS AS ALWAYS FOR BEING HERE. THE FIRST LADY CAME DOWN WITH COVID WHILE VACATIONING WITH FAMILY SOMETHING PLENTY OF PEOPLE ARE DOING RIGHT NOW. WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE KEEP IN MIND AT THIS STAGE OF THE PANDEMIC? >> I’M GLAD TO KNOW THAT THE FIRST LADY IS DOING WELL. PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THEY CAN STILL COME DOWN WITH COVID. MAKE SURE YOU ARE FULLY VACCINATED AND BOOSTED. IF YOU DEVELOP SYMPTOMS, TEST WHETHER AT HOME OR THROUGH A TESTING FACILITY AND IF POSITIVE AND IF YOU FALL INTO A GROUP FOR WHOM PAXLOVID IS INDICATED, WE SURE TO GET TREATED. >> LET’S GET TO SOME VIEWER QUESTIONS. >> MAUREEN WANTS TO KNOW: "I’M WONDERING WHY PRESIDENT BIDEN WOULD NEED TO MASK FOR 5 OR 10 DAYS WHEN HE HAD JUST RECOVERED FROM COVID. WOULDN’T HE HAVE PROTECTION FROM REINFECTION AT LEAST FOR A MONTH OR SO?" >> HE IS PROBABLY PROTECTED, BUT THERE ARE TWO GOOD REASONS FOR HIM TO BE MASKING. THERE ARE RARE CASES WHERE PEOPLE MIGHT GET REINFECTED EVEN SOONER. HE NEEDS TO BE TESTED FREQUENTLY TO BE IN CONTACT WITH OTHER PEOPLE SO IT’S REASONABLE FOR HIM TO TAKE EVERY PRECAUTION. >> SWITCHING GEARS, WE CONTINUE TO GET QUESTIONS ABOUT MONKEYPOX AS WELL. HERE’S A QUESTION FROM REGINA: "I KEEP HEARING IT CAN BE PASSED BY SKIN TO SKIN CONTACT, CAN I CATCH THE VIRUS FROM GETTING A PEDICURE AND A MASSAGE?" >> ONLY IF THE PERSON HAD LESIONS ON THEIR HANDS AND FINGERS WHEN THEY WERE DOING THE PEDICURE AND MASSAGE. IT’S VERY UNLIKELY. >> DR. KURIZKES, THANKS SO MUC
