Harrison Robledo, who had practiced with FC Cincinnati for the entirety of its preseason, officially became a member of the team on the eve of Major League Soccer's opening day.
FC Cincinnati announced on Friday what was effectively a trade-and-sign for the 20-year-old Robledo's rights, which it paid New York City FC up to $75,000 worth of MLS financial assets for.
New York received a base payment of $50,000 in general allocation money, plus performance incentives rising to an addition $25,000.
NYCFC also retained a percentage of any future transfer fee should FCC move Robledo to a club outside MLS.
With Robledo's rights in-hand, FC Cincinnati was able to sign Robledo to a first-team homegrown deal. He becomes the third player from Cincinnati's academy to earn a professional contract.
FC Cincinnati's academy started midway through 2019 and has so far produced one professional player in each of the last three years.
Robledo appeared in all five of FC Cincinnati's preseason games, assisting on a Yuya Kubo goal in a 1-1 draw against the Philadelphia Union and scoring the winner in a 3-2 victory over Nashville SC in 120 minutes.
