Northern Kentucky University’s law school received a $3 million donation, the largest in the 129-year history of the school.
W. Bruce Lunsford, a business innovator and investor, made the donation to increase the impact of the W. Bruce Lunsford Academy for Law, Business and Technology, according to a press release.
The W. Bruce Lunsford Academy is an honors program that was first created with a $1 million gift in 2013. The program provides hands-on training opportunities for students interested in the intersection of law, business and technology. It's meant to emphasize the importance of business and technology in the legal fields, according to the program's website.
The $3 million donation will increase fellowships for students working in the technology sector and expand geographically networking and placement opportunities for students.
“I have been extremely pleased with the successful outcomes that the students have achieved, and I look forward to the continuing evolution of the Academy in the years ahead,” Lunsford said in a press release.
Lunsford graduated from NKU’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1974. He’s chairman and chief executive officer of Lunsford Capital LLC, a private investment company headquartered in Louisville; chairman of Arcadia Communities LLC, a Louisville-based real estate development company for senior living communities, and chairman of the board of Sentry Health, an integrated health solutions enterprise.
He began his career as a lawyer at Cincinnati-based Keating, Muething and Klekamp, and later served as Kentucky Secretary of Commerce.
NKU’s Board of Regents will need to approve the gift at its March 16 meeting.
