Milford High School's boys' basketball program will undergo a leadership change as 20-year veteran head coach Joe Cambron has announced his retirement from coaching as the 2021-22 season comes to a close. Cambron steps away from a program that he guided to 222 victories during his tenure.
Cambron came to Milford in advance of the 2001-02 season after a 12-year college coaching career. During his time on the Eagle sideline, Cambron led the program to a pair of conference championships and double-figure victories in 12 seasons.
The 2014-15 season was historic as Milford captured a share of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship and advanced to the OHSAA district finals in Dayton, winning a school-record 22 games, including 18 straight to open the season.
For his efforts, Cambron was named ECC and District 16 Coach of the Year. He also won Southwest District Coach of the Year honors in 2007.
"Coach Cambron has been a foundational pillar of our Athletic Department for the last two decades,” Milford athletic director Aaron Zupka said. “His name is synonymous with Milford basketball. The number of young men he’s impacted over the years is countless.
“Coach Cambron has always been a man of high integrity, character and accountability, teaching many life-long lessons that will last with the players he's coached forever. He will always be an important part of Milford basketball history and his legacy and impact will continue on far beyond his years of coaching.”
Despite stepping away from coaching, Cambron will continue in his role as a physical education teacher at the high school. The search for the next head basketball coach will begin immediately.
Milford struggled to a 4-19 mark this season, losing in the OHSAA tournament to top seed Elder last Friday. Their last winning season was a 13-12 record in 2019.
